here it is without the gradient. i had it in there to ground the site and make the picture feel like it was more an integral part of the website rather than a section. the photo is almost gradated up and i felt it was a good way to merge the two, let me know what you think.

The black hairline stroke around the site is enough to unite everything. Also, the power lines unite the two halves as well. The reason the two halves look different is because of the big green box. Why not make the black navigation bar green (and smaller, about the same width as the green box) and make the green box a very, very light grey or try making the white background a very light grey and making the box white.
