Both sitemaps seem like they would work. I did question the need for a "news" section when you also have the "projects" section. Does the company have more news beyond the projects? Can this section be combined into one?
I couldn't post comments to your post with the sketches for some reason, but here is your feedback. Develop the "kinetic" page a little further and the page with the birds sitting on the wires. With the birds on the wires, try something different, meaning don't go silly with it, try something elegant.
